Kerry Loudenslager was born in Sioux Falls and raised in a hardworking Midwestern family that valued faith, education, and service.
A multi-sport athlete and musician in his youth, Kerry went on to earn:
- B.S. in Business Education – University of South Dakota
- Master of Arts in Human Resources Development – Webster University
- Selected for U.S. Army War College and Graduate of the U.S. Army Command & General Staff College
He and his wife Doreen—married nearly four decades—are proud parents, grandparents, and lifelong members of the South Dakota community.
Distinguished
Military Leadership
Kerry served 27 years in the United States Army and South Dakota National Guard, retiring as a Colonel with numerous commendations including the Legion of Merit.
His leadership included:
- Command of the 1st Battalion, 147th Field Artillery, named the top National Guard artillery unit in the nation
- Director of Operations for Joint Task Force Civil Support, coordinating national-level response to chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and explosive threats
- Worldwide training and operational leadership supporting thousands of soldiers
His career reflects a lifetime of discipline, accountability, and mission-focused leadership—the same qualities he will bring to Pierre.
Proven
Civilian Leadership
After military retirement, Kerry built a successful second career with Financial Services Industry, earning:
- Executive Council & President’s Council honors
- Qualification for the Million Dollar Round Table (top 2% of the industry)
- Promotion to Managing Partner, overseeing operations for dozens of advisors
In 2018, Kerry and Doreen returned home to Sioux Falls to be near family—and to continue serving their community.
Faith &
Community
Service has always been central to Kerry and Doreen’s lives through:
- Veterans organizations including the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) and Disabled American Veterans (DAV)
- Church leadership, youth mentoring, and Bible study
- Coaching youth sports and community volunteering
- Homeowners’ association leadership and civic engagement
